This NordBiz Intensive Course is a unique course in Smart Business, which is a joint course in the NordBiz network of universities from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. The aim of the course is to introduce a Nordic-Baltic business perspective to the concept of circular economy with focus on the food- and agriculture industry, to which also cross-sectorial businesses such as tourism sector also relates (i.e. agro-tourism). The cases studies of this course should be analysed from the point of view of digitalisation, business model, and consumer behaviour. The course will also give the students the possibility to work in a multicultural environment and create their own network of future business people during the course. The course will contribute to the insight in all kinds of organisations, public and non-governmental, and their role and interplay with companies and consumers. Furthermore, as a result, the ideas, principles and practices of Circular Economy could be transferred to the thinking and operations of companies and organisations, creating for them a competitive advantage, new growth and even job opportunities
Námsmarkmið
The student should after the course be able to: ● Familiarise students with circular economy concepts and their relation to digitalisation. ● Apply perspectives from the circular economy theories to investigate the opportunities and hindrances for a sustainable future. ● Raise the level of awareness among students of what sustainability means in practice, through training and assessment of the best practices. ● Challenge the students to critically rethink current business models and consumption. ● Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the complex relation between economy, technology and society, between digitalization, environment and development on local, national and global level. ● Critically analyse and evaluate information from the different sources in relation to the circular economy in the food and agriculture sector. ● Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the circular economy and resource management for businesses, as well as for public and non-profit organizations in the changing international society. ● Demonstrate an understanding and awareness about culture and communication between people from different backgrounds. ● Carry out assigned project tasks within a limited period and according to the high academic standards. ● Orally (virtual or on site) and in writing, present and discuss conclusions in relation to the knowledge and arguments they are based upon. ● Communicate and in practice cooperate with different involved stakeholders.
Námsmat
At the beginning of the course, the students will prepare a country report at their home university. During the intensive week students and teachers from eight different countries/universities meet for project work and tutoring, workshops/seminars, presentations, and guest lectures.
