Law practice since 1975 as partner in a number of law firms. Admitted to the District Court of Iceland (hdl.) in 1977 and the Supreme Court (hrl.) in 1982. Also from January 1, 1995 to December 31,1999 Managing Director of the patent bureau Árnason & Co. Ltd.

Lecturer on Corporate- and Finance Law at the University of Iceland, Faculty of Economics 1977-1981.

External Examiner on General Jurisprudence and Legal History at University of Iceland, Law Faculty 1984.-2002.

Lecturer on Securities Law and Regulations at courses held by the Ministry of Finance for the Securities Brokerage Diploma 1991-1995.

1989-1995: Chairman of the Ethicsl Committee on Market Conduct organized by the Icelandic division of the International Chamber of Commerce.

On the Board of  Ísaga ehf. (a member of the Linde Gas Group) 1994 - 2007.

Member of a government appointed committee which drafted a regulation on the insurance obligation of securities brokers and securities firms in 1989.

1995: Nominated by the Minister of Industry and Commerce to serve on a permanent workgroup on securities market issues and the EEA. The workgroup drafted bills proposing amendments to the legislation on securities transactions and securities funds in 1996.

From 1 July 2001: Member of a consultative committee organized by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce on issues concerning financial services and the European Economic Area (EEA).

2002-2003 Chairman of two Evaluation Committees appointed by Reykjavik University to evaluate the academic qualifications of two  appointees for positions as associate professors.

Chariman of the Board of Reykjavik University European Law Institute from  5 September, 2002 to 17 March, 2005.

Member of the Board of the Reykjavik University Institute for Financial Services Law from 1 April 2004.

Appointed in 2006 an ad hoc District Judge by the Ministry of Justice in two constitutional cases.
