Dr. Björn Þór Jónsson is an Associate Professor of Computer Science, as well as the Acting Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, at Reykjavík University, Iceland. His research work focuses primarily on the performance of content based multimedia retrieval, as well as the performance and tuning of relational database systems. He has also done work on semantic caching, a client architecture for caching query results, and on the performance of information retrieval systems. He has taught classes on database design and implementation, architecture and performance of database systems, and on advanced database systems, such as multimedia systems, stream query processing and database client caching.
Björn completed his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1999. After working in industry, he joined Reykjavík University in fall 2000. He has served on the program committees on some of the major database conferences in the world, and was co-creator and co-chair of the international "Computer Vision meets Databases" workshop series - CVDB.
