For the past 100 years we have developed management principles that have increased our efficiency and lead to enormous growth. But these principles have been shown to have a scary lopsidedness. Today we can lead and engage employees so much so that they put aside morality and their own health to reach goals and deadlines – and while ever more people suffer for work-related burnout, our creativity, innovation, and human balance plummet. We have to be efficient and create results. But we also have to change focus from short-term solutions to sustainable management that ensures long-term productivity.   The purpose of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the concept of sustainability in leadership and management and the ability to identify and analyze problems and issues facing management and personnel and provide perspective about both the advantages and problems with traditional management, performance management and modern management theories and practices.

The student should: - Have an understanding of sustainability in leadership, organization and teams - Have an understanding of the concept of psychological safety and how it impacts burnout, interpersonal performance, problem solving and innovation - Demands and decision latitude and other factors impacting performance and work-related stress and burnout The student should: - Be able to identify and analyze the short term performance and long term sustainability of the management practices and models applied in the organization, its management processes and leadership. The student should: - Be able to take part in professional discussions about performance management, self-leadership and burnout and stress in organizations. - Be able to develop and implement improvements to the sustainability of management processes and leadership.

Kennsluaðferðir
Lectures on theory, explanation of approaches, techniques, exercise sessions and responses to questions from students. The teaching methods rely on the students’ active participation and good preparation.
